Who this visa is for

This visa is for people working remotely for an employer based outside the UAE, earning at least the monthly figure shown above (denominated in US dollars). Processing is fast, often around two days, which makes it unusually predictable compared with European routes.

The real filter is not the visa but the cost of living in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. It suits higher earners optimising their tax position who can absorb Gulf-city rents, rather than budget nomads.

The tax angle

The UAE levies no personal income tax, so foreign remote income is not taxed at the personal level while you are on this visa. That is the whole appeal. Note that a 9% corporate tax and 5% VAT exist, but neither is a personal income tax, and your home country may still tax you depending on your residency.

Because there is no income tax, there is also no local tax-residency incentive to chase; the benefit is simply the absence of a tax, not a special regime you have to qualify for.

The official UAE government pages state the USD 3,500 monthly floor shown above. A higher USD 5,000 figure circulates in secondary reports, but it does not appear on any official page, so we publish 3,500 and flag the rest rather than guess.

Fees, family, and how it compares

Fees are in dirhams and differ by the issuing channel (the federal ICP route versus Dubai's GDRFA), so a single quoted number is misleading; see the fee note on the fiche. You can sponsor family for the same one-year period, and valid health insurance is required.

Against the European options, the UAE trades away any path to a second passport for speed and a zero-income-tax environment. It is a strong base for a tax-efficient year or two, not a citizenship plan.
