Search for a list of digital nomad visa countries and you will find counts ranging from about forty to over eighty. The spread is not because anyone is lying. It is because those lists quietly mix together three different things, and only one of them is a visa you can actually apply for today.
Three categories hiding inside one list
The first category is a live program: legislated, implemented and accepting applications, with a published income threshold and a real application channel. This is the only group worth planning around.
The second is announced but not open - a law passed, a press release issued, no implementing decree and no way to apply. The third is a country with no dedicated program at all, where remote workers instead use a freelance permit, a self-employment route or a long-stay visitor status. Why the announced ones matter less than they look
